Rosebay willowherb, Chamaenerion angustifolium, is typically regarded as a weed. It bears slender spires of pink flowers in late summer, and spreads by downy seeds and strong runners. A ‘pioneer species’, it’s known for colonising bare ground and can quickly build up into large numbers.

Chamaenerion angustifolium 'Stahl Rose' is a particularly gorgeous cultivar of the species. It bears slender spires of pale pink flowers on darker stems. More compact than the species and less prone to spreading by runners, it’s perfect for growing in a mixed border where it can naturalise among other plants. Like the species its blooms are loved by bees and other pollinators, and its leaves are the larval food plant of the elephant hawk-moth.

Grow Chamaenerion angustifolium 'Stahl Rose' in moist but well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade.
