Bearded irises are so-named after the 'beards' on each of the falls (lower petals) of the flowers. Tall bearded irises grow to a height of around 70cm or more, and flower in late-spring and early summer.

Iris 'Florentina' is a traditional, old-style bearded iris, with smaller flowers than other cultivars. Flowers are white with a hint of blue, and have yellow beards. It grows to a height of 60cm. 'Florentina' is perfect for growing in a mixed herbaceous border or gravel garden, and makes an excellent cut flower.

For best results grow in well-drained soil in full sun, and mulch with well-rotted manure or garden compost annually.
