Perennial or border phlox, Phlox paniculata, is a tall-growing phlox native to the USA, typically with pink flowers. However there are many garden-worthy cultivars available in a range of heights and with different coloured flowers, making them a popular stalwart of the traditional border.

Perennial phlox is renowned for its colourful flowers with a sweet, honey-like fragrance. It’s an ideal choice for the middle of a border, and thrives in rich, moist soil in light shade.

Phlox paniculata 'Purple Eye Flame’ has a short, bushy habit, growing to a height of just 40cm. It bears large, fragrant purple flowers with a pretty white centre, on strong stems. It’s well suited to growing towards the front of a mixed, herbaceous border among daisies and echinaceas, or even in containers. 'Purple Eye Flame' makes an excellent cut flower.
