Prunella is a genus of low-growing plants in the mint family, Lamiaceae. They're commonly known as self-heals having been highly prized in the past for their supposed medicinal qualities.
Prunella grandiflora 'Freelander Blue' is a vigorous, spreading perennial producing low-growing mounds of foliage topped by rich-purple flowers from May to October. It's ideal for growing towards the front of borders where it can be used to soften hard lines and edges. All parts of the plant are edible, with the young leaves making an especially tasty addition to salads.
For best results, grow Prunella grandiflora 'Freelander Blue' in full sun or partial shade in moist, well-drained soil. If growing it from seed, sow early in the year for flowers the same year.
