The woodland poppy, Pteridophyllum racemosum is an unusual woodland perennial, so much so that it used to be part of the mono-generic family, Pteridophyllaceae*,* though the species has now been placed in the Papaveraceae (poppy) family.

What makes Pteridophyllum racemosum stand out are its frond-like leaves, which give it the appearance of a fern, until the flowers appear. In late spring and early summer, racemes of clear white flowers are produced. It's ideal for growing in cool, shady spots, so is great for east- and north-facing locations and can be used to form spectacular flowering carpets.

For best results, grow Pteridophyllum racemosum in partial or full shade in moist, humus-rich and well-drained soil. Avoid planting it in alkaline soils.
