Raphanus sativus is one of the easiest and fastest vegatables to grow, with summer varieties ready just three to four weeks after sowing. It's perfect for tucking between other vegetables as an intercrop, or as a catch crop for sowing wherever ground is empty for long enough.
Raphanus sativus 'French Breakfast' is a popular summer radish, bearing oval, crisp scarlet and white roots. Grow in moist but well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Early thinning is important, or plants make leaf at the expense of usable roots. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
